Asphalt Intelligence Documentation

Learn how to identify Areas of Interest, review results, upload custom imagery, and integrate Asphalt Intelligence output with QGIS.

What is Asphalt Intelligence?

Asphalt Intelligence is a browser-based pavement analysis platform that uses aerial and satellite imagery to remotely screen road surface for roadway surface defects, areas of interest, and locations that may benefit from additional inspection. Transportation agencies, consultants, municipalities, and asset managers can rapidly screen thousands of roadway miles before committing field crews and specialized testing equipment.

The platform combines computer vision, geospatial analysis, and GIS mapping to classify pavement condition from imagery while preserving precise spatial coordinates. Results are delivered in open formats that integrate with QGIS, CAD software, and existing pavement management systems for review, visualization, and decision support.

Asphalt Intelligence supports a wide variety of applications including road condition assessment, pavement management, asset management, preventive maintenance planning, transportation engineering, and network-level screening of highways, local roads, and other paved infrastructure. By helping agencies identify locations that deserve closer attention, the platform reduces unnecessary field inspections and improves the efficiency of maintenance planning.

This documentation explains how to identify Areas of Interest, process imagery with the InSight Viewer and InSight Pro Viewer, review classified outputs, prepare imagery for analysis, and integrate results into QGIS workflows.
